Work in progress

the thai(land) experience!

THAILAND

After visiting a couple of countries in Europe, it was a natural instinct for my husband and me to unanimously decide on travelling to some Asian destination for a rugged experience! Thailand was the most obvious choice for the popularity it has among indian travellers of all hues.

All was planned and off we set course for our much awaited trip along with my feisty cousins- all 20 year olds.

Visa on arrival
It was a learning lesson about the visa formalities that happen at the bangkok airport and not at the final destination of deboarding. This created a bit of a panic as we’d not catered for the visa part in the layover at bangkok airport before our flight to phuket.

Phuket
We were kicked about setting foot in this Thai Land with varying landscapes where hills and beaches co exist! Travel a little further, the streets were lively and the tenor was ecstatic that seemed contagious & was sparking our energies!

Naina resort & spa
Arguably a luxurious resort that soared our excitement and anticipation for a comfortable retreat.

Bangla road walking street
a party place like this was like being at a carnival. You had to feel the vibe and just acclimitise to the mood!

Phi phi island tour
You travel across to marvel at the wonders of nature after a speed boat ride of about an hour. The weather was down so we did the tour in what seemed like double the time. Not forgetting to pop in those anti vomit meds which made us drowsy as hell towards the end but were still worth it lest many would die of sickness! It was an arduous ride that felt like eternity but once you step foot on the island or just see the beauty, it seems worth it! You also get to take a dip in the water or a spash from the boat straight into the salty water for a nice soak and thrill! I wore denim shorts and forgot my bikini because of which an entire was spent in salty water drenched heavy clothing and was not to my best liking or preference.
We tried out scuba and had a fun experience of the same. Although many felt disappointed and remembered the richness of andamans under water world.
Dont forget to down some beer and fresh sweet watermelons and pineapples at some exotic locations amidst the sea!
The perfect way to end the day was with a massage and an eyeful at a ping pong show!!

A day to relax and explore
A day to recuperate from the exertion of the previous two days as we head out to zip line at the flying hanuman. An adventurous and fun day- perfectly spent in the company of the youngsters!
This was followed by a trip to the local restaurant that became our favourite place for good continental food- ‘The Little Mermaid’ where we devoured our lunch.
Thereafter we head out to the patong market for skimming through bikinis for my next island trip, a ‘back breaking’ massage and a coffee break at the omnipresent ‘The Coffee Club’.
We chanced upon a pamphlet of Naughty Nuris and traced it down through GPS for some sumptuous pork ribs!
The night was spent by the pool side enjoying some bhel puri and local sweet mangos along with strawberry Baileys.

James bond island escapade.
A scenic beauty and an adventure junkies’ paradise.. The kayaking amidst the caves was a thrilling experience! The ride this time was a smoother one sans the speed boat. A dip into the water and a chilled beer on a remote picturesque island were memories of a lifetime. Sumptuous lunch was served on the boat that was devoured by all passengers to the bone!

It was a jam packed day with activities as the evening was booked for the famous New moon party at paradise beach. This is one of the most happening parties ever and a major attraction among the party people tourists in thailand. with a tight security presence that can keep all stalkers/ ‘high on life’ guys at bay, ample booze, crazy line up of DJs, fireworks, dancers, we were all sold for this and were among the last ones to exit!

Dolphin show. Last swim in the pool and crazy fun with walkathons etc in the water. and
the final meal at burger king.

Transfer to bangkok and reach at night. Hit the local night market- ARTBOX and enjoy
the thai sweet delicacy – sticky rice with mango at mangonista- an amazing beverage store! Their smoothie was also delicious!

Bangkok shopping
We hit the platinum mall through BTS nana and had breakfast at 7 X 11! Thereafter we surged through all the floors and innumerable shops! All had one thing in common- no bargaining there! Rather they’re averse to the idea and get really rude.. The shopping varied from beautiful undergarments to shirt-shorts sets, pant suits, linen pyjamas, fancy tops etc etc.
The mall has a wonderful food court where we had all sorts of cuisine! Including the indian Chole Bhature that barely lasted on the table! Also on the outside, there’s a good thriving marketplace with food and beverages included. I picked up some funky chappals and there’s no count of the amount of coconut water/ smoothies we had!

Thailand must haves-
Crocs/ trendy plastic foot wear with a back strap- that’s sturdy and won’t come off in the water!
Bikini!!!!
Sunscreen
Hats and shades
Thai Bahts! (currency)
Waterproof backpack/ a handy sling bag to wear and roam around tension free of pickpockets
A water proof pouch for your smartphone to click pictures on the go during island tour visits!
Maggi cuppa noodles for on the go meals or stock up on the many brands of ready to make indian meals in case you don’t have a palette for sea / thai food! Otherwise, Thailand Also offers delicious fruits and coconut water!

What to guard against in Thailand?
Phuket is relatively a safe haven for tourists with friendly people and a safe night life to explore even for single men! However, this may not be the case in Bangkok so have your guard on and know what you’re headed for.

Going Bananas !

Of what use is an over ripe banana? You might even just cringe at the thought…

the delectable super-food fruit that adorned by fruit basket and was a daily morning staple, gradually languishes getting mushier and wrinkly. (Read- unfit for consumption- no more desirable!)

I wasn’t throwing these “left-out from eating , now over ripe” (inedible) bananas away! Why? …. Aware that this state yields the truest essence of the fruit, making it an ideal ingredient for its flavours !

So while I’m on a strict weight loss regime and attempting to follow a diet , the potential contained in the fruit basket makes me reconsider. After having spent the entire afternoon reasoning, I decide to just go with it! after all it’s a Sunday and comes only once a week!

Just like the elders in our family are attuned to pampering us, these matured bananas signal me with their aroma to spoil myself with some succulent cake!

In a tribute to this batch of ‘left- over unwanted’ fruit and an irony of sorts- from being an eye sore, I mould the fragrant batter into beautiful cupcakes.

They rise and shine and bake in all their glory! While I watch in satisfaction of having a little, something healthy on a Sunday, celebrating a cheat day.

Making sense of it

There’s so much on my mind. Lots that I wish to know. How much, I can’t explain!

There’d be many ambitious ones, wanting to do it all. But how much water can a jug contain? But my mind won’t reason. It knows no limits and is ever thirsty (for more… ideas, creativity, knowledge…. caliber what not!)

I resist and get caught up in procrastination. The cobwebs of routine ! Gratification in delaying “important ” stuff for that coveted (and elusive) “one day”.

Finally I’ve resolved to be an outcast from the mould ! That cements the likes of me into shackles of helplessness. Tugging away at the chains of bondage! The one that keeps me distant from my self! We’ve Both got to be in touch.

I used to think.. (still do), “where’s the time!?” And be quick in blaming factors beyond me. a couple of self help books later.. I say, “I choose my responses and no one controls that”! So, more power to me and let’s have it my way all the way.

Now, I de clutter my thoughts and let the ideas/wishes/ dreams/ to Dos flowing (Confusing me) . There’s a rainbow of concepts and chores. So I sit with a humble pen to prioritise! And keep a diary to never miss a beat. After all the time is ours and we all got our 24 hours everyday!

military training

first time training in a military academy, musings from that period….. (with a hint of optimism and grit of a soldier!)

“i’m breathing in this life..

feeling the high being alive.

paddling my way through soft winds

it’s a strength bestowed by the djinns.

yes, here i am in truest sense..

momentous threshold to the days in defence!

‘one-for-all, all-for-one..

have pulled up socks and intended the pun.

challenging limits, breaking barriers to endurance..

i’ve discovered myself in newer abundance!

the resistless soldier undergoing training,

the parade, the discipline, the officer-like bearing!

in pristinity of pursuit, the focus firmly sits

this is all the glamour and the glitz.

letters from home- uplift, bring unfathomable joy..

mother, father.. I will be the guardian of our sky!”

tribe affinity!

i, like everyone else have a natural inclination towards all the ‘groups’/ ‘clubs’ / ‘teams’ that i’ve been part of as a student in my school or college days. here’s one jingle i made for our Squadron- CHITNIS at the Air Force Academy! such cheering was a common sight during competitions ranging from swimming to athletics to cross country! they were significant in motivating the youngsters and inspiring the team spirit! #leadership lesson!

CHITNIS

CHEEEEEEETAHHHHHHHHHSSSS!!!!!!!!

“Cheetahs are we ! champions of academy!

synonymous with finesse! say ‘Yellow’ for Chitnis!!”

though this never got rooted twas a lil sophisticated perhaps for all the intense scenarios that needed jeering!

TODAY

it requires mettle to get things done NOW and not ‘someday’. there’s grit and determination that make one a go getter. heard of the adage- now or never.. seize the moment.. ?! my instructor at the Military academy used to say- tomorrow is a fine day, but it never comes. and just so elusive is that ‘someday’.
i heard somewhere- when you’re down and out just get up, dress up AND show up! the essence of it all is in ACTION.. prompt action.
my experience of 22 years or rather since the time I’ve come to mature senses has laid bare one weakness that affects people in more ways than one-… PROCRASTINATION. it means having pending jobs up the head that keep mounting and piling up that further lead to mental stress and the ultimately – no fruitition.
if one is prompt, she’s also tension free and she gets things DONE. ain’t that blissful?
now that i am employed and shoulder responsibility.. i shall endeavor (to the best of my efforts) to let go of the bondage or restraints… to be prompt..be a go-getter!
THAT is my resolution for this new year that beckons another new beginning! cheers.procrastination resized

Go-Getter

through the corridors

those-who-follow-the-crowd-usually-get-lost-in-it-i-dont-know-all-the-keys-to-success-but-one-key-to-failure-is1

there’s a crowd full of people

in my place everywhere

with bygone memories i gamble

in the very home we did share.

all the meals and the laughters together

my eyes on lookout for you forever

you’re still here somewhere any corner i stare

your thoughts make me smile through this new fan fare.

amazing isn’t it- how I found you

say ain’t that so true.

why it never felt like you’re a stranger

a chance meeting or luck sheer..

i have no words to describe

no songs to sing

for i’ve lived those days

in the 2014 spring.
