ALL THE WORLD’S A VILLAGE

Or so we think? Wish we had? Or living in one global village already? These are questions one would least ponder over- let alone conceive. When my day starts with a bowl of AMERICAN Quaker Oats in the day to the Omelet I prefer SPANISH style. From the Beverly Hills T shirt and Marks and Spenser jeans teamed with my Desi Kohlapuris – am I not testimony to inhabiting a ‘global village’? Indeed. This routine of life is ingrained in the fabric of societies the world over to the extent that one never pauses to appreciate the metamorphosis of the world into one global village.  That the likes of Delloite and KPMG are pursued adroitly by me and fellow graduates alike as hot job options is telling of the fact that boundaries across the world seem to be erasing .with options (opportunities) galore  that this scenario promises , one has all the reason to be optimistic and revel in the glories of such a world. But as the saying goes- All the world lives in two tents- content and discontent, the jury is out on the implications of this phenomenon of globalization.

Opponents of this new world order contest ‘westernization’ of indigenous cultures and ‘eroding’ of values caused therefore. The all consummate western influence in the ‘global village’ is blamed as an advertent consequence of the hegemony of the developed part over the rest. If all the world began speaking the same language, wearing similar kind of clothing and thinking alike- what room would it leave for diversity and what about innovations?  This is the skeptic picture one can paint.

Verdict- Globalization –like a coin with twin sides –good or bad whichever is the reality of the world today. the rationale behind it however must be humanitarian welfare in all cases.
